Opening on Thursday, May 3 from 7-9pm, Susan Dobson’s inaugural exhibition for her “Slide Library” series of photographs capture images of a lost technology. Guelph photographer, Susan Dobson, has photographed two collections of slides that are in the process of being dismantled. One collection focuses on contemporary and historical art, while the other contains slides on photography and photographic ephemera. Dobson’s photographs included in the exhibition form yet another generation in the life cycle of material reproduction. Dobson photographs with film, and makes physical prints of analogue slide collections that contain reproductions of photographs that were themselves reproduced in books. The physical objects in these defunct slide libraries become, for Dobson, memorials to artists, to researchers, to analogue photography, and to the life cycle of material objects.
