A mid-career artist based in Moncton, with an impressive list of exhibitions, numerous art grants, international residencies, and publications to his name, Jared Betts debuts his newest line of work and palette, Colorlust.
A painter of highly charged emotional abstract expressionism, Jared seeks to rethink the parameters of contemporary painting. Using multiple modes of painting, from formalism, to abstract, to graphic mark-making, his works occupy the space where consciousness descends into a dream, where pattern and colour expand to become an alluring sensory experience
Tom Smart writes in the publication, Materiality and Perception in Contemporary Atlantic Art, on the 2019 Marion McCain Exhibition of Atlantic Art at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery: “Through a dense visual vocabulary, Betts’ paintings conjure immersive sensory experiences that enfold not only the creator of the statement but also the viewers into a cerebral environment.”
These works are on display at Gallery 78 until Saturday, November 28, 2020, and always online at www.gallery78.com.
