Winter Newsletter: President’s Message

Hello, my fellow members and Happy New Year. I hope that you all had time to rest and recharge your batteries over the holidays.

I want to start 2021 by thanking all of you for your dedication to ADAC. Many of you work diligently to ensure that this Association can provide for its members, whether it is serving on our Board, on our committees or through other support measures and I want you to know how much your volunteerism is appreciated.

2020 was a turbulent year, one of significant changes and equally significant challenges, but I am proud to say that we met these head on and are now on the path to a stronger, brighter future for ADAC.

As we turn the page and move forward you will continue to see your association advocating on your behalf, lobbying the Federal Government for greater support measures for you and your galleries as we deal with COVID-19 and speaking out on public policy issues including legislation, legal matters, and international trade to ensure the Canadian art market remains strong and competitive, both here and abroad. Our Communications committee and team will be hard at work promoting your galleries, pushing forward with greater online content through Instagram and Twitter, while our website will provide current updates on COVID-19 support measures and important notices regarding the Canadian art market. Our Membership committee will build upon our existing partnerships and will seek out new ones to provide you with additional member benefits, while our Appraisal committee and staff will work hand in hand with you, the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board (CCPERB) and Canadian cultural institutions to ensure our appraisals continue to be the gold standard in our industry.

ADAC will also be moving forward with efforts to help provide future online resources and opportunities for you as the accelerated shift to e-commerce in the art market grows.

Additionally, I hope that you will join me in welcoming our new Executive Director for 2021, Emma Roberts. Emma has worked with BASE Consulting, our management firm, for over eight years and has a wealth of management experience in the not-for-profit sector. She is looking forward to working with each and everyone of you and I encourage you to reach out to her with any of your ADAC related inquiries.

Below you will find recent updates related to the efforts of the Association mentioned above. I encourage you to read through them and reach out to Emma at executivedirector@ad-ac.ca with any questions you might have.

I wish you all the best for the coming year,

Joseph Rumi, President
