NEW BOARD MEMBER: MICHAEL WARREN
We are very excited to announce Michael Warren as our newest member to join the Board of the ADAC.
Michael Warren is Director of Madrona Gallery in Victoria, British Columbia. He established his gallery in 2010 with a focus on contemporary and historic Canadian art. Before starting Madrona Gallery, he worked for a number of galleries in western Canada. Michael holds a BA in art history from University of Victoria with a minor in Arts of Canada. Over the last decade he has established himself as a leading dealer of Canadian art in his region through his in-depth knowledge of the Canadian art market and high standards of his galley.
We welcome you, Michael and look forward to working with you. We know you will be a great asset to the Board!
NEW STAFF MEMBER: DELANEY SWEEP
Please join us in welcoming our new Appraisals Coordinator, Delaney Sweep.
Delaney received her B.A. (with Honours) in History with a Curatorial Studies minor, Ryerson University in 2018 and then a Master of Museum Studies, University of Toronto and Master of Information from the University of Toronto in 2021.
Her previous position was as a Library and Information Management Assistant for the Archives of Ontario and she also worked as the Collections Assistant at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto and as the Collections Assistant at Innis College Library. Delaney co-curated the 2021 Shelley Peterson Student Art Exhibition for the Art Museum at the University of Toronto as her exhibition project while completing her Master of Museum Studies degree.
Delaney enjoys reading, travelling (when it is safe), and visiting museums. On Friday evenings she enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends.
TORONTO GALLERY WEEK
Earlier this week we announced the 23 Locations & 30 galleries participating in Toronto Gallery Week, Oct 26-31st.The Toronto Gallery Week builds onto the excitement around what is traditionally an art week in Toronto, complimenting the anticipated return of Art Toronto that weekend at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. As Canadian art collectors and enthusiasts from the city and across the country once again converge in Toronto we invite the public to explore the exhibitions, attend programming and reconnect with the Canadian art world.

ADAC continues to monitor any number of issues which could affect art dealers and gallerists in Canada. Over the summer we responded to the Government’s consultation on a modern copyright act by requesting a complete exemption from copyright legislation that could interfere with the ability of art dealers to post images online. We are watching the situations surrounding Covid-19 policy in Canada, anti-money laundering legislation in various countries, and closely watching for the re-emergence of traditional threats such as ARR.

Even as ADAC navigated the restructuring of its operations and the impact of COVID-19, Kendra’s dedication to the Association never wavered and she contributed significantly to ensuring ADAC’s current strength. CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
The ADAC Board of Directors is calling for member volunteers to participate on various committees. This is an excellent opportunity to engage with the ADAC, as committees are currently being established for various initiatives. If you are interested in volunteering your time, you should expect at least 1 committee meeting via Zoom every month and more frequent calls as the need arises throughout the year based on the area of focus.
This is a great experience if you would like to learn more about, the association, and perhaps, if you see yourself joining the ADAC Board of Directors in your future! Your participation is important, as volunteers are needed to support these initiatives. Each of these committees are established with ADAC Directors in leadership roles.
Current committee openings include:
- Events: Sub-committees are responsible for organizing ADAC events such as Toronto Gallery Week and our Inaugural Webinar Series.
- Communications: Responsible for Communication Planning including ADAC’s Communication Strategy, branding, display material, key messaging, website, and member surveys.
- Membership: Responsible for driving new member initiatives and generating member feedback.
- Finance Committee.
