Fall 2021 Newsletter: President’s Message

Hello,

my fellow ADAC members and welcome to Fall. I have no doubt you are all fully
ensconced in what promises to be the busiest season of the year. I’m sure many of you
have already started your Fall exhibitions and are getting ready for additional events
including art fairs, auctions, gallery weeks and weekends!


It is wonderful to see the progress that has been made with vaccinations and that many
provinces have now implemented Covid-19 Vaccination Passports. This reduces the chance
of further lockdowns and bodes well for a busy Fall season. As always, we will continue to
keep a close eye on the Covid-19 situation and provide you with any important updates.


Over the Summer there have been some new developments and we are excited to welcome
Michael Warren, Owner and Director of Madrona Gallery in Victoria, BC, to our Board of
Directors
. Michael has contributed significantly to the strength of the Historical and
Contemporary art market in Victoria, and we look forward to working with him as we
continue to build an even stronger National association.


It is also my pleasure to welcome Delaney Sweep, our new Appraisal Coordinator. Delaney
comes to us from the Archives of Ontario, Collections & Development Unit where she
worked on numerous databases, and from the Art Museum of the University of Toronto
where she was a Collections Assistant organizing the digital assets of all four permanent
collections! Delaney also has a Master of Museum Studies and Master of Information
Concurrent Degree specializing in Archives and Records Management and Library and
Information Sciences. She has already started working with our Appraisal Committee, our
members, and cultural institutions in preparation for meeting future CCPERB appraisal
deadlines. Please join me in welcoming Delany to the ADAC family!


As Delaney joins our ranks, sadly we must say goodbye to Kendra Popelas. Kendra was an
exceptional Appraisal Manager and her dedication to ADAC throughout her four years with
the association was exemplary. I know that all members, the Board of Directors,
committees, staff, and especially the Appraisal Committee, join with me in wishing Kendra
the very best as she embarks on the next chapter of her career, one that I can confidently
say has a very bright future.


For the Fall ADAC has continued to work hard on programing. We are thrilled to begin the
inaugural Toronto Gallery Week running from October 26 – 31. This online and in person
initiative supports and promotes galleries in the city with ongoing or special in-gallery
programming, including those who are hosting other galleries in their spaces during this
exciting week. If you would like further information regarding Toronto Gallery Week please

ac.ca.

Emma Roberts and our ADAC staff are also preparing for the first of our new
webinars for members and the public that we plan to debut at our AGM in November.
