Gallery 78 is pleased to host an exciting presentation about another kind of art – one that you can walk on! Did you know that now is a great time to buy a beautiful rug? There is a good supply, low demand and prices are coming down. But what should you look for? What are the different types of weaving? Is silk better than wool? What does ‘quality’ mean? Should the rug be signed?
Never fear! Spend an afternoon with long time rug buyer and seller and self described ‘rug fanatic’ Myles Leitch and many questions will be answered! Gallery 78 is hosting a free Rug Appreciation Workshop – Introduction to Rugs 101. Myles Leitch and his wife Janet recently moved to Saint John from Toronto and we have the pleasure of their company on Saturday April 12 from 2 to 4 pm (Atlantic Time) at Gallery 78, Fredericton.
Myles has a PhD in linguistics and a lifelong passion for rugs. He will be bringing examples to show and will discuss Persian, Turkish, Caucasian and Central Asia Bokhara rugs. Myles explains, “Rugs bring to me the joy and richness of diverse cultural life around the planet. These carpets are alive with the history, emotions, and cognitive skills of the weavers. The complex patterns and colors speak to my soul, and hopefully to yours as well!” Myles and Janet are generously offering an Afghan rug for a door prize draw! Light refreshments will be served. Join us for an informative, lively and fun afternoon.
