A surrealist in the best sense, Henry Wanton (Jimmy) Jones was mysterious, irreverent, and always dazzling and it’s my pleasure, after such a long professional relationship, to honour him with a retrospective spanning all six decades of his monumental and fascinating body of work. Jimmy and I had long discussed mounting a retrospective of his work but the pandemic put those plans on hold and sadly, he passed during those challenging few years. My special thanks go to Julia Kertland for her invaluable help in gathering these wonderful paintings and sculptures. I hope this carefully curated survey gives you some insight into the limitless imagination Henry Wanton Jones and the unique position he occupied in the evolution of twentieth century Canadian art.
