Art Placement is honoured to present Ernest Lindner: Sketches, an exhibition of preparatory drawings and sketches by the late, eminent Saskatchewan artist, Ernest Lindner. Drawn from private collections, the exhibition features twenty-four well-preserved works on paper in a variety of dry media, most coming to market for the first time. We are also delighted to include a selection of watercolours, the medium for which Lindner is most strongly associated.
Ernest Lindner was a highly important and nationally recognized Canadian artist who played a foundational role in developing Western Canada's artistic legacy. He is famous for his hyper-detailed watercolor paintings and engravings of the boreal forest floor. His legendary "Regeneration of Nature" series focused heavily on stumps, moss, and decaying wood to symbolize the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. His artwork is preserved in major institutions like the National Gallery of Canada, the Glenbow Museum, and the Royal Ontario Museum.
