In conjunction with the Victoria Arts Council and Queer Island Festival of the Arts, Madrona Gallery is pleased to present a selection of works by celebrated Victoria artist Michael Morris (1942 – 2022).
These vibrant yet delicate studies in colour and light represent the culmination of the artist’s lifelong investigation into the notion of colour as a universal language. A key figure in the development of conceptual art in Canada and a figure of global influence, Morris made these pieces during a detour in India before returning to Canada after almost two decades of artistic experimentation in Berlin. Representing a ‘full circle’ moment in a celebrated international career, the Ziggurats are an important moment in Morris’ oeuvre.
