Georg Kuettinger- Interferences

March 19 - April 12, 2026

The term interferences describes the new works of photo artist Georg Kuettinger. Within this body of works, he continues his deliberation on the topic of perception – what observers can actually perceive and the realm of opportunities this creates for them. What role does interference play for this act of perception, what does it refer to? In the realm of physics, interference is defined as an addition of two or more electromagnetic waves that pass through each other. A wave possesses amplitude, an oscillation of either positive or negative value. This effect is apparent in all types of waves, including light waves. Kuettinger is manipulating both photograph and plexiglass to create final works that are abstract in the way they allow light to penetrate and also how they reflect it back, often catching it at many angles at once.

BIOGRAPHY

Kuettinger studied architecture with a main focus on conceptual urbanism at the Technical University of Munich, graduating with a degree as an architect in 1999. Since then, Georg has been focusing on photography. As a self-taught artist, his fascination for photography started when he won his first camera at the age of 9 – in a drawing competition on the subject of woods and snakes. A highlight of his career was being selected from artists across Western Europe to have his work featured in a solo booth as a ‘promising emerging artist’ at KIAF art fair Seoul 2008. The artist has shown in a wealth of solo and group exhibitions, and his art has been represented at art fairs in Europe, Asia and Canada. The Kostuik Gallery has been representing Georg Kuettinger since 2015.
