Closing | New Exhibitions @ Gallery 78

  • Gallery 78 796 Queen Street Fredericton, NB, E3B 1C6 Canada (map)

From October 14th to November 15th, Gallery 78 is delighted to present three new exhibitions of established Atlantic Canadian artists.

Stephen Hutchings astounds with the artwork in his newest solo exhibition titled “In the Company of Trees”. This exhibition is a meditation on the relationship of the self, the passage of time, and the confluence of memory with the natural world. Created using repeatedly reworked charcoal drawings and transparent oil layers, his paintings are hypnotic, captivating creations that leave the viewer with a sense of reverence for their surroundings.

Susan Paterson amazes in her exhibition “Still Reflections”. Paterson explores light’s subtle ability to convey texture, change colour, reflect, and disappear into darkness. Highly detailed oil studies elevate arrangements of contrasts; the smooth, firmness of silver against the ripeness of plums, the delicacy of eggshells, and the softness of linen. Her paintings invite the viewer to slow down and intently observe the incredible beauty that surrounds us.

In “Life and Still Life”, William Forrestall revisits the homage to still life painting through reimagined subjects. Surreal compositions highlight the juxtaposition between shards of broken ceramics with the delicate body of flowers. Forrestall’s egg tempera studies are detailed creations that leave more to be discovered with every glance.

We look forward to welcoming you to the opening reception on Friday, October 17th from 5-7 pm! Meet the artists and discover their exceptional artwork in person.
