Jennifer Kostuik is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by Canadian artist James Verbicky featuring a selection of new collage & resin based works on panel plus newly created paintings on canvas and paper while in residence from May 26 – 30th.

Although based in Southern CA, James Verbicky will be in Vancouver BC prior to and for the beginning of his exhibition using a local studio where he will be creating one landscape and several smaller paintings on paper for this exhibition. The exhibition centers around Verbicky’s continued interest in his series titled Citta Samtana which is a Sanskrit phrase translating loosely to “mental continuum” or mind-stream. On display will be a selection of mixed media collages on panel in various circular, rectangular and square shapes and sizes, along with limited edition signed artist prints on paper, collage on paper, and paintings on both canvas and paper.

“These complex and sculptural mixed media artworks [are] vessels for communicating about a society oversaturated by media. By utilizing and reconstructing rare historical content, including both obsolete and persisting brands and advertisements, they have allowed Verbicky, as a visual language manipulator, to move beyond deconstruction alone and create his own new, abstract visual language.”
